Areas of Interest
• Rhetorical theory; pedagogy.
• One book in progress, titled Reading Western Rhetoric: Six Stories About the Meaning of Meaning, identifies and examines influential European perspectives on the nature of language and discourse, including the magical, the ontological, the empiricist, the expressivist, the sociological, and the deconstructive.
• A second book in progress explores the philosophical and historical background of "critical pedagogy", an educational praxis, influenced by the work of Paulo Freire, that relates literacy development to political and economic enfranchisement.
